Wave Products Acquired by Pit Viper Owners
Reinvigorating the 40+ year-old, Salt Lake City-based, adventure gear brand

Salt Lake City, Utah - Sept. 20, 2021 - Today, technical bag manufacturer, Wave Products, announced new ownership and launch of new website, waveproducts.com. Pit Viper co-founders and Salt Lake City locals, Chris Garcin and Chuck Mumford, acquired the company in April 2021, and are excited to bring the brand online with new, exciting product offerings.

Wave Products is a Salt Lake City-based heritage brand, founded in 1979 by a trio of outdoor lovers. Steve Brings, Cal Demler, and Clarke Shaw set out to build indestructible bags for their adventurous lifestyles, aiming to bring a newfound durability to the market. Since then, Wave Products has created gear for skiers, travelers, and hikers (Wave was one of the first to produce internal-frame backpacks). They re-invented fishing bags for anglers, and even crafted bags for dogs (Puppy Paniers). In 1986, Wave packs were used in the American expedition of Mt. Everest. Wave also specializes in the design and production of fully custom bags, and has collaborated with companies like L.L. Bean, Alta and Brighton Ski Patrols, and NOLS.

In the spring of 2021, Pit Viper co-founders and former professional skiers, Chris Garcin and Chuck Mumford, acquired Wave Products. Pit Viper, a sunglass, accessory, and apparel company also based out of Salt Lake City, was founded by the duo in 2012 and has since seen exponential growth thanks to a strong brand identity–a cheeky and often irreverent outdoor-enthusiast and ski-focused culture that prides itself on not taking life too seriously–as well as sound digital marketing savvy.

Under new ownership, Wave Products has adopted a direct-to-consumer sales platform, and will expand its product offering to include backpacks, fanny packs, bike bags, tote bags, and more. Wave will also work directly with Garcin and Mumford to design and manufacture products for Pit Viper, and collaborate with outdoor, bike, and ski companies for future product releases.

“Wave and Pit Viper are kindred spirits – sharing the same fearless approach to selling products and company culture. Wave is actually an acronym that stands for Wild Ass Venture Equipment, which really says it all,” stated Wave Products GM Dan Mason. “The new ownership is excited to continue the Wave legacy and bring the brand online to sell the same handcrafted, durable bags directly to outdoor enthusiasts on the very first Wave website. “

“Ask the generation of Salt Lake skiers, bikers, and anglers that came before us, and they all know Wave Products. Chances are, they’re still using their handmade Wave bags,” commented Garcin. “Chuck and I have always been impressed by the Wave brand and love its founding principles. We are excited to carry on its legacy and introduce the company’s first website, waveproducts.com.
